2023#34 | Some nostalgic feelings

This week, I ate and drank a lot and gained some weight. Although work has been relatively leisurely, I haven't really stopped. I returned the book "Carving Time" because I haven't had the energy to read recently, but I started looking for some Android development stuff and tried to write along with it.

Actually, I accumulated a lot of inspiration when I went out yesterday, but when I opened the document, I had no idea what to write (maybe I forgot when I got home yesterday), so I roughly organized it.

Accompanying Care#

The biggest event this week was that my younger brother had a minor surgery on the day when Japan discharged nuclear wastewater. I was called to accompany him for one night. Of course, he said that he was fine on the first day and asked me to go back early, but I stayed there for one night to observe, justifying it by promising his dad. There was really nothing wrong.

It's worth mentioning that the taste of the hospital's cafeteria is surprisingly good, mainly because I had a negative impression of cafeterias. But it's strange that this hospital built the cafeteria on the basement floor (next to the morgue, how can you eat in a place like this?).

In the morning, when I went to buy the Seven Degrees Space for my younger brother (mainly to absorb the postoperative secretions), the girl in front of me at the checkout counter (who seemed to be about the same age as me) bought two packs of salt.

Salt Hoarding Trend#

In my shallow life experience, I have witnessed many waves of salt hoarding. In the past, it felt magical and exciting, but now I'm used to it. This wave of hoarding originated from Japan's discharge of "nuclear wastewater," which means that sea salt can no longer be consumed. This will cause people who used to buy sea salt to buy table salt, leading to a shortage of table salt resources.

It seems more reasonable than the previous wave of hoarding salt for radiation protection. Actually, if you try to persuade others not to hoard salt, they will say that you are rationalizing the "discharge of nuclear wastewater." Sometimes I feel that it is normal for some people to be easily influenced because I find it difficult to deconstruct their logic.

Of course, this may be a sociological phenomenon, or even an economic phenomenon. When a group of people who have been "bewitched" by rumors rush to hoard goods, it will inevitably reduce the inventory in the market. This will cause another group of people who are worried about resource shortages to rush to hoard goods, thereby further exacerbating the reduction of inventory in the market. When the inventory in the market continues to decrease, it triggers a new panic...

I remember that during the Wenchuan earthquake, it was also said that the salt wells collapsed and people needed to hoard salt.

But why salt? I don't really understand the underlying logic.

When I was accompanying my brother in the hospital, I received a message from my boss asking me to find him the next day. I was worried all night in the hospital, afraid that he would tell me that the company couldn't continue (after all, there have been several precedents). The next day, I rushed over and asked him, only to find out that he planned to publish two books and asked me to participate in the editing and layout.

I thought it would be difficult to get a publishing number, but my boss calmly said that money would do.

Although the publishing industry is a declining industry, I understand the need to find ways to make money. But if I find out which publishing house it is, I will definitely not buy books from that publisher in the future.

Movie Watching#

The Simpsons#

This week, I continued to watch The Simpsons while jumping rope. Before selling to Disney, this show had a strong satirical meaning.
image
This episode should be from the third season, I forgot the specific episode number.

It tells the story of Bart taking a career test and finding out that he is best suited to be a police officer. After experiencing the joy of being part of a legal violent organization, he becomes a "hall monitor" at school.

During the school's rectification movement, Milhouse shouted, "We have order, but what have we lost?"

When Bart chooses to take the blame for Lisa, the new hall monitor is Milhouse, who forces Bart to leave.

Art that used to be satirical all over the world has now become offensive art, and I don't even think offensive art can be considered "art."

Baghdad Cafe#

Actually, I randomly clicked on this movie. The beginning of the movie uses camera angles and colors to create a sense of restlessness, making people uneasy. A German woman leaves her husband on the highway and comes to Baghdad Cafe alone, a silent, dead cafe.
Tilted camera angle

There are a lot of tilted camera angles in the early part of the movie to create a sense of restlessness.

Hard not to be captivated by this opening

This silent, dead cafe is almost hostile to the German woman. The movie has few dialogues, so this hostility does not lead to much conflict. The biggest conflict is when the owner calls the police to check her identity.
Vibrant colors during the cleaning
As the German woman gradually conquers the cafe, business starts to improve.

Calm and beautiful ending

BBQ subjective rating: 9/10

A very heartwarming movie, with few dialogues, but the colors and camera angles are full of emotions.

Art Cell Enhancement Plan #2#

Art Seen by Chance#

Because I received a gift from a beautiful girl from Yunnan, I invited her to dinner today. I originally wanted to eat Western food, but when I arrived at the destination, I didn't feel like eating at that restaurant, so I turned around and went to a Japanese restaurant (which was expensive).
Grilled meat

It's a very anime-style Japanese restaurant, with stickers of light music girls on the walls. While eating, the opening song of K-On! started playing (I remembered it from my ancient memories of being an otaku).

The air conditioner in the restaurant tripped halfway through. The beautiful girl exclaimed that it was romantic and thought that they were going to have a candlelight dinner for us (then she turned on her flashlight).

Candlelight dinner

Although it was a bit expensive, the food was delicious. Of course, that's not the main point, but I just wanted to share two happy pictures.

After eating and drinking, we went to a tea shop and I grabbed a postcard. There was a picture on the postcard:

Art on a postcard

Art can be found everywhere.

"Chinese Emperor" Tapestry Series#

In 1688, the Beauvais Tapestry Factory in France produced the "Chinese Emperor" series of tapestries, which are masterpieces of Chinese-style art in the Baroque era. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the pictures of this series on Google Arts, so I had to find some images to make up for it.

From this picture, you can tell that this is the author's imagination of China. At that time, many missionaries brought back gifts from China, which were presented by Kangxi, and exaggeratedly depicted the Oriental "prosperous era" of that era, arousing Louis XIV's strong interest in the mysterious ancient country of the East. He even appeared in public wearing Chinese-style clothing in a sedan chair carried by eight bearers, thus setting off a craze for "Chinese style" in France. If you look closely at the Rococo-style paintings of the Baroque period, you can see many Chinese elements.

I flipped through a few Rococo-style paintings, such as the classic Rococo-style painter Boucher's painting of the imagined "Chinese Lady."

Boucher also included a painting in the "Chinese Emperor" tapestry series called "Chinese Emperor Reigns," which has almost become a model that has been studied in Europe for decades.

In 1767, French diplomats presented this set of Chinese-style tapestries to Qianlong, who liked them and placed them in the Old Summer Palace (I could already guess its fate when I heard the name of this place). During the Second Opium War, they were brought back to Europe.

Missionary Johann Adam Schall von Bell and "Summary of Western Learning"#

Returning to the picture on the postcard, the theme of this painting is "Summary of Western Learning," and I found this series of things by searching for this keyword.

Johann Adam Schall von Bell, a missionary sent to China, served as the head of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau during the Shunzhi period and reached the rank of first class. However, in his later years, he was sentenced to death by Lingchi, although he luckily survived, he died of illness the following year.

It is quite normal for a foreigner to be accused when he is so influential in the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. After all, it's the Chinese officialdom, haven't you seen or heard of it? In order to respond to the accusations, Johann Adam Schall and others wrote the "Summary of Western Learning." The main idea of this book is to introduce the story of Jesus and point out that the ancestors of the Chinese people came from the West, and the teachings of Confucius and Mencius are products of Catholicism, and so on. It is almost saying that Chinese history is nothing more than a Western appendage, which is very difficult for high-level officials to accept.

In the third year of Kangxi's reign, with the support of Ao Bai and others, he was sentenced to Lingchi.

In the fourth year of Kangxi's reign, under the intervention of Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang, Johann Adam Schall and other missionaries were pardoned.

In the fifth year of Kangxi's reign, he passed away.

Retro Hidden in the Alley#

The beautiful girl is leaving again on Sunday and said that before leaving, she wants to take purikura (photo booth) pictures with me. I thought this was something from a long time ago.

What's even more magical is that this purikura photo booth is located in Taiping Street, which is considered the most prosperous (with the strongest commercial atmosphere) street in Changsha. In my impression, this street is just following the tourists, and there is nothing good to eat on the side of the street, but it's all about food.

The beautiful girl didn't comment on it and threatened to follow her. When we arrived at Taiping Street, it was crowded, noisy, and bustling. Suddenly, the beautiful girl pulled me to a dark little alley.

"As if there was light, entering through the mouth, initially narrow, just enough for one person to pass. After walking a few dozen steps, it suddenly opened up."

After walking a few steps, there was an open-air courtyard with several shops with an old-fashioned style.
Nostalgic feelings next to the bustling street, time seems to stand still

Different from Taiping Street just tens of meters away, time froze in the "non-mainstream" era here. But to be honest, I don't have any "non-mainstream" feelings or memories of that era. At that time, I was probably immersed in my own world and not very interested in these things.
Non-mainstream photo frame
The beautiful girl enthusiastically chose a photo frame, while I boredly flipped through the photo album and saw many anime-style photos.

And there are Saber and others, although they are still popular now, they are actually works from 2005/2006.

Visiting Huogongdian Shop#

In [this issue]({{<ref "Week 4">}}), I wrote, "Next time I will go to Huogongdian to see if the highest instruction is still there." So I became obsessed with it, thinking that this thing shouldn't really be engraved there.
Highest Instruction
It's really there.

The Huogongdian enshrines the God of Fire, and the side hall enshrines the God of Wealth and Guanyin. The temple of the God of Wealth is the most visited, even more than the main hall of the God of Fire (I even exaggeratedly said that I didn't see anyone go there when I visited). It can be seen that everyone who comes to the temple is here to seek wealth. The Guanyin Hall also seems to be deserted. It used to be a place to pray for children, right? Now that no one goes there, there's nothing more to say. I feel that Guanyin Bodhisattva, who saves the suffering and helps the needy, should develop some other businesses.

Huogongdian should be on par with Confucius Temple, but it is completely inferior in terms of momentum, but it should have a similar number of visitors.

  1. Don't Go Crazy When Working When people focus on productivity, they eventually focus on busyness. Make every moment filled with things to do. And there's always more to do! The goal of work should be "effectiveness." Your work is effective when you actually complete the project. As long as you complete the project effectively, you can stop. Therefore, you can pursue doing less and achieving goals in less time, so that you will have more leisure and rest, which is sustainable.
  2. Open Source Song Typeface "Zhuque" It looks pretty good.
